The route for the 2023 Cancer Research UK London Winter Run has now been revealed*. For those looking for an alternative to the London Marathon following negative ballot results, this event represents a 10k alternative to the 42k commitment. If you’re signed up to the event, here’s what you can look forward to:

What you can expect:

Runners will once again roll out of Trafalgar Square, along The Strand and towards the city via the Royal Courts of Justice. After taking a turn into Chancery Lane, you will be granted views of one of the capital’s most iconic landmarks, St Paul’s Cathedral. The enormous dome has towered over Londoners since the 17th century and with the road closed from cars those signed up to this event will have unprecedented freedom to ogle at Christopher Wren’s English Baroque masterpiece.

4km in to the route, runners will plunge into the city’s banking sector before passing the pumping tunes of the Penguin Party, pictured above. Caution: runners can often find themselves distracted by spectacular views of the Shard, the Gherkin and many of London’s other remarkable landmarks at this stage of the route.

Throughout the route, you will be cheered on by dozens of talented musicians, bands and musical groups plus some of the famous characters that have adorned the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run route over the years including our loveable Polar Bear, Bear Chills and our fleet-footed Penguin, Blizzard. We’ll be announcing new additions to the route shortly so make sure you’re following us on our social media channels to be amongst the first to hear updates.

 

 

 

 

As runners begin their return from east to west, they will pass the Cancer Research UK Rock Choir and the Husky High Five zone. In the final stretch of the route, runners will catch glimpses of the London Eye and Big Ben before finishing on Whitehall, outside Downing Street.
